Carlos Alcaraz will get his 2023 campaign properly underway in Buenos Aires on clay and he hopes to build on an extraordinary 2022.
The Spaniard started last year really well but even he was surprised by what followed. Two ATP 1000 trophies, one grand slam trophy, the number one ranking, and year-end No. 1, it was all he ever dreamed of and it came so early in his career.
It was a very good year. I achieved my dream, my goal, very quickly. Practically in just a year. I dealt with it as naturally as possible. After becoming No. 1 I had to set new goals, new things for the long term, to continue to enjoy myself, continue to improve, because I’m very young and I have a lot of things to improve, despite being the No. 1. You have to keep training and looking forward.
The will to improve is really strong with Alcaraz as he's not one to rest on his laurels. He wants more victories, more trophies and just more continued success. To get there, Alcaraz wants to improve his fitness, mentality and just his game overall.
I think I can improve everything in terms of my game, fitness and mentality. Little by little, my team will take those small steps to get even better. Rafa, Roger and Djokovic, when they were young, they were so good, but as time has gone by, they’ve improved. This is the basis of his motivation from now on.
