Despite many withdrawals of top players, the draw for the 2023 Qatar Open, which is a WTA 500 event played in Doha, is still packed with star names.
From February 13th to 18th, a WTA 500 event takes places at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, before men play their event a week later. This year, all eyes will be on world no. 1, Iga Swiatek, who is also the defending champion in Doha.
The young Pole starts the tournament as the first-seeded player, but she may face the 2022 Australian Open finalist already in the second round, as she'll meet winner of the match between Danielle Collins and a qualifier.
Jessica Pegula is the second-seeded in Doha, and in the second round she will take on Jelena Ostapenko or one of many Americans, Madison Keys. The list of players from the US competing in Doha is long and it features many interesting names.
The fourth-seeded Coco Gauff will start against Petra Kvitova, two-time champion at the Qatar Open, or Shuai Zhang. On the other hand, the 2020 Australian Open champion, Sofia Kenin will meet Liudmila Samsonova.
Caroline Garcia, no. 3 in Doha, starts also with bye in the first round, and in the second round, she will face off against Martina Trevisan or Karolina Muchova. The draw features many interesting matches and so be sure to check it out in full below.
