Novak Djokovic's dominance in men's tennis is undeniable, and he has once again made history by breaking Steffi Graf's record for the most weeks spent as world no. 1.
In the coming weeks, the 22-time Grand Slam champion is set to continuously rule the ATP Rankings, but that may not have been possible without the unfortunate injury of rising star Carlos Alcaraz.
As the only player with a chance to dethrone Djokovic from his throne as world no. 1, Alcaraz's injury has given the Serbian player a much-needed break. The young Spaniard had already shown that he had the talent and drive to challenge Djokovic, having taken his spot as the world no. 1 last year.

Most probably, he will now miss the Indian Wells and Miami Open due to his unvaccinated status, but thanks to creating a big enough cushion between himself and Alcaraz, the Serbian will still have an opportunity to accumulate points during the upcoming European clay-court swing.
Of course, Djokovic's sustained success is not solely due to Alcaraz's injury. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all time, having won 22 Grand Slam titles and breaking many records. However, the injury has undoubtedly given him some breathing room right after breaking Steffi Graf's record, as he seeks to solidify his legacy and maintain his dominance over the sport.
Ultimately, it is impossible to say how things would have turned out if Alcaraz had not been injured. He may have been able to build on his performances in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro and challenge Djokovic for the world no. 1 spot. However, the injury has allowed Djokovic to continue his record-breaking streak and add another achievement to his already illustrious career.
