Carlos Alcaraz won't compete at the 2023 Mexican Open in Acapulco after he was forced to withdraw because of an injury.

The Spanish teenager had been one of the favorites to win the tournament, as he was seeded first in the draw, but unfortunately, he will not be able to compete due to an injury that bothered him also during the 2023 Rio Open final against Cameron Norrie, which he eventually lost.

Already after his final match in Rio, the Spaniard admitted that he felt the pain in the same muscle that forced him to withdraw from the 2023 Australian Open.

It was clear that the injury impacted him during the final at the ATP 500 event in Rio de Janeiro, and Alcaraz now announced that he has a grade 1 strain in his hamstring, which will make it impossible for him to compete in Acapulco.

"Unfortunately, I won't be able to play in Acapulco. I have a grade 1 strain in my right hamstring that will keep me out for several days, according to the tests we did this morning."
"I'm really sad I can't compete here, but now it's time to think about recovering and being ready as soon as possible. I hope to see you all soon!"

Alcaraz will now attempt to recover in time for the two upcoming ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. The first one will be the 2023 BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells, followed by the 2023 Miami Open, where he's the defending champion.

Also Cameron Norrie, who was seeded fifth in Acapulco and played against Alcaraz in the finals in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, withdrew from the 2023 Mexican Open as he also wants to recover for the Sunshine Double.

"Unfortunately I have to withdraw from Acapulco. It's one of my favourite tournaments, so it's really tough for me to withdraw."
