Just a few minutes after the biggest success of his career on the ATP Tour, Holger Rune was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Next Gen ATP Finals.

The 19-years-old Dane earned 1000 points for his triumph at the 2022 Paris Masters and thanks to that, he will appear on the 10th place of the ATP Rankings on Monday. Because of that and withdrawal of Carlos Alcaraz from the 2022 ATP Finals, Holger Rune will become the first alternate at the year-end competition.

Therefore, the young Dane was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Next Gen ATP Finals that take place only on week before the official year-end event. Following his triumph over Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Paris Masters final, Rune said:

"It means everything to me, a perfect way to finish the week," said Rune. "It's a privilege to share the court with Novak. I’m feeling lovely to be honest, it’s the best feeling,” said Rune. “If you told me four weeks ago, I would be Top 10… I would be like ‘What, sorry?’. Now I’m here and I’m super proud."
