Jannik Sinner played a flawless match to take down Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon moving on to his maiden quarterfinal at the event.
This match was expected to be a good one and it was yet we only saw three sets because Jannik Sinner played a flawless match from start to finish to take down a solid but not great Alcaraz. Neither of them have played much grass tennis but today it was Alcaraz who struggled much more than Sinner. It was not the best that the Spaniard can offer but it was certainly solid enough.
Sinner however was on another level as he dominated play on his serve barely allowing any chances to Alcaraz. The Spaniard did not return well and oftentimes found himself in a weird spot on the court not being able to play the way he wants to play. Sinner was doing everything he could to send many deep balls that would force Alcaraz out of position.
It worked in the first set as Sinner won it 6-1. It worked in the 2nd set was Sinner won it 6-4 and it worked in the 3rd set which was a very close and competitive one. Both had chances in that one but ultimately it was finished in the tiebreak where Alcaraz proved a bit luckier. He was up 6-4 after outplaying his opponent but fell behind 6-7. He would save two match points in the tiebreak winning it 10-8.
Alcaraz opened the final set really well putting a lot of pressure on Sinner who was able to save multiple break points. Alcaraz pretty much gave away a service game with some bad mistakes and fail to use 0-40 in the next game. That proved enough for Sinner to close it out 6-4.
