Carlos Alcaraz might not have seen it coming but he's back on the top of the ATP Rankings, replacing Novak Djokovic.
One of the minor storylines of the grass season is the battle between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz for the number one spot on the rankings. Djokovic probably would have cleared Alcaraz easily if he had the 2,000 points Wimbledon didn't award this year but he'll have a pretty good chance of snatching them up this year.
It should put him way past Alcaraz as the difference is rather minor right now. The Spaniard doubted his chances of winning the Cinch Championships, but after getting it done, and securing the 500 points it awards, he emerged on top of the rankings with 7675 points.
Novak is now second on the list with 7595 while Daniil Medvedev remains 3rd with 5890. Casper Ruud is no ghost on the rankings either as he's quite visible at number four with 4690 points but he might get overtaken by Stefanos Tsitsipas if the Greek puts together a good run at Wimbledon. Ruud doesn't seem particularly interested in that, at least not judging by his preparation at the event.
Holger Rune is not too far either with 4510 points and neither is Andrey Rublev with 4255. There is a minor drop-off after that as Jannik Sinner at 8 has less than 4000 points. Taylor Fritz and France Tiafoe trail him by about 300 points as well. Alexander Bublik is the biggest winner this week following his Halle Open triumph over Andrey Rublev. He's now ranked inside the Top 30 at number 26, a new career high.
That's what not liking tennis gets you in life, imagine what he could do if he actually loved tennis. All jokes aside, Bublik finally found a good rhythm and it paid off for him in the biggest possible way. Some other notable names like Murray and Berrettini slid down and you can check all of that out on our dedicated rankings page.
