After three years a very strong ATP entry list will return to the Montreal Open as the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Canada will be played from August 7th until 14th.

Canada has one of the most interesting Masters events when every year ATP and WTA players take turns playing in Montreal and Toronto. As the 2020 event was cancelled, the ATP Tour didn't visit Montreal and so it returns in 2022 with Rafael Nadal as the last person that triumphed at the Montreal Open.

Yet, the defending champion is world number 1, Daniil Medvedev who triumphed last year in Toronto. Traditionally, the entry list features all the top names and there are many challengers for the title as well as defending champions.

Alexander Zverev triumphed in 2017, but due to an injury he won't play this year. Novak Djokovic won in 2016 and Andy Murray celebrated in 2015. Before it was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who triumphed in 2014, but the Frenchman already ended his tennis career. From 2004 until 2013, it was only Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray who captured titles in Toronto and Montreal.

This year, young guns will try to win the trophy and follow in Daniil Medvedev's footsteps. Some hot candidates include Carlos Alcaraz who won in Miami this year, Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime and also Stefanos Tsitsipas.
