Elena Rybakina, who played in the final of the recent Australian Open, is one of the most recognizable names in the sport today.

Despite her impressive achievements, including winning the 2022 Wimbledon Championship, Rybakina has often not received the recognition she deserves, as points were not awarded for that tournament due to the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian players.

However, Rybakina has started the 2023 season with a bang, making it to the finals of the 2023 Australian Open and finally moving into the top 10 of the rankings. Despite her recent success, Rybakina will still need to play in the qualifying rounds of the 2023 Qatar Open, which is a WTA 500 event played in Doha, as the entry list was made prior to the Australian Open and she still appears as the 25th-ranked player.

Currently, she is the 5th alternate for the main draw, and she will need at least 5 more players to withdraw or receive a wild card to get into the main draw. This situation highlights one of the unique challenges that tennis players face in the sport.

With so many events taking place throughout the year, the rankings can change dramatically from one week to the next. This means that players who were once considered to be among the top in the world can suddenly find themselves having to play in the qualifying rounds of lower-tier events and vice versa.

In Rybakina's case, this is a frustrating scenario, as she is one of the most talented and successful players in the sport today. However, she is not alone in this situation, as many other top players have faced similar challenges throughout their careers, including semifinalist from Melbourne and former world no. 1, Victoria Azarenka, who is currently ranked 16th and will most probably also need to play in the qualifying.

Despite this setback, Rybakina will likely continue to play at a high level, and it is only a matter of time before she receives the recognition she deserves.
