After announcing her singles comeback which was supposed to take place at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, Venus Williams took a wild-card for the 2022 Citi Open in Washington.

It's been almost a year since Venus Williams played her last singles match and fans at the 2022 Citi Open in Washington will be the first to see the experienced American return to the singles courts after playing mixed doubles with Jamie Murray at the 2022 Wimbledon.

Williams will join a strong line-up that features names such as Jessica Pegula, Emma Raducanu, Leylah Fernandez, Simona Halep and many more. However, Venus will probably set her goals very high as always and she will try to surprise the crowd in the capital.

“I am excited to be playing the Citi Open for the first time this summer,” Williams said. “I love Washington D.C. and returning to the nation’s capital to play in front of a community that has supported me so strongly feels like a homecoming. I am looking forward to being back on the courts and competing in D.C. soon.”
