One of those was Iga Swiatek, who was the most dominant player of the season as she managed to win two Grand Slam titles. Two experienced players returned to the Top 10, and two Americans managed to finish there, too, after the retirement of the 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.

2022 WTA Season Summary:

Ashleigh Barty and Iga Swiatek were the two most talked about names in 2022, but for two different reasons. The Australian unexpectedly ended her professional tennis career, while the young Pole took over the reign on the WTA Tour, winning two majors and ending the year as the world no. 1.

The 2022 Wimbledon was held without Russian and Belarusian players, and paradoxically, the women's event was won by a player born in Russia, Elena Rybakina, who didn't get points for her triumph because of the ban, so she wasn't among the players who finished in the Top 10.

Swiatek was by far the most dominant player in 2022, having won eight singles titles, and while Caroline Garcia tried to match her, she stopped at four, and Liudmila Samsonova was the only other player who managed to win at least three singles titles.

The likes of Barbora Krejcikova, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Bernarda Pera, and Ekaterina Alexandrova all won two or more singles titles, but for none of them that meant a spot in the Top 10.
