The 2019 WTA season was a pivotal year for the world of women's professional tennis, as it saw two players win their first major.

The season featured a number of highly-anticipated matchups and standout performances from some of the top players in the game. One of the biggest stories of the year was the dominance of Ashleigh Barty.

The Australian player had a breakthrough season, winning her first Grand Slam title at the Roland Garros and rising to the top of the world rankings. Barty's impressive run also included victories at the Miami Open and the Nature Valley Classic, cementing her status as one of the top players in the world.

Another player who had a strong year was Karolina Plískova, who finished the year as the world number two. Can you name the other eight players who joined them in the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings? Test your knowledge in our quiz and learn something you may have forgotten in the summary below.

2019 WTA Season Summary:

Women's tennis is known for many different Grand Slam champions, compared to the dominance of the Big Three on the ATP Tour. In 2019, this variety was palpable once again on the WTA Tour, with four different major champions.

Naomi Osaka won her second major at the Australian Open, and Simona Halep won her second at Wimbledon. On the other hand, Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu joined the ever-growing list of Grand Slam winners, as they won the Roland Garros and the US Open, respectively.

But it wasn't just about Grand Slam champions. Karolina Pliskova won four titles, while Aryna Sabalenka and Sofia Kenin each lifted three singles trophies in 2019.

Yet, it wasn't enough for either of them to finish the year in the Top 10, as the likes of Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova, and Belinda Bencic stepped up when it mattered.
