Eugenie Bouchard returned to tennis after more than a year and she immediately got back to winning ways at the 2022 Chennai Open.

The experienced Canadian started her tournament against Joanne Zuger and after winning in two sets, Eugenie Bouchard played against home wild-card Karman Kaur Thandi and she showed her experience and triumphed again in two sets.

Despite a two-set match, Bouchard had to stay more than two hours on the court. In the first set, the 2014 Wimbledon finalist started with two breaks and didn't lose her lead later in the set as she stayed solid on her serve and won it 6-2.

In the second set, things got a little bit more complicated for the Canadian. She lost her serve and soon found herself 2-5 down. Two games later, her opponent had two set points but Bouchard stayed calm and got the break back.

Eventually, the second set reached a tie-break after more than 70 minutes and it was dominated by Bouchard who after two hours and 13 minutes secured her first WTA quarterfinal in exactly 18 months. In her quarterfinal match, she will play against a winner of the match between Nadia Podoroska and the fourth-seeded Tatjana Maria.
