Tour-level tennis is returning to South Carolina as the Charleston Open welcomes a field replete with talent and star power to this year's edition.
The entry list for the 2024 Charleston Open was released, featuring a total of five Grand Slam champions. Moreover, five of the world's Top 10 players, led by World No. 5 Jessica Pegula, will play on the green clay from March 30th to April 7th in Daniel Island.
This WTA 500 tournament preserves its reputation as a hub of outstanding hospitality and world-class facilities, not to mention the significant renovation of the main stadium a few seasons ago to offer state-of-the-art playing conditions and an unrivaled fan experience.
Pegula spearheads a packed list of Americans in the initial entry list, which also includes Madison Keys (expected to return to full fitness after missing the first two months of 2024), rising star Emma Navarro, and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens.
Sofia Kenin and Danielle Collins, who are only two spots apart in the rankings, have also committed to play in Charleston. Tunisia's Ons Jabeur is seeking a third straight final at the event. Jabeur lost to Belinda Bencic in 2022 but exacted revenge by beating the Swiss in last year's rematch to lift the title.
Maria Sakkari and Jelena Ostapenko are also part of the WTA's Top 10 who will return to Charleston. The Latvian reached the final back in 2017, the same year she won her first and thus far only Grand Slam title at the French Open.
Charleston was Elina Svitolina's comeback tournament in 2023. The Ukrainian former semifinalist is also making a return this year, as is former champion Daria Kasatkina, who has not lost before the quarterfinal at this tournament.
The likes of Victoria Azarenka and Paula Badosa will also look to get some much-needed rhythm on clay. The entry list for the 2024 Charleston Open has been compiled and can be accessed below.
