The 2023 Australian Open is shaping up to be an exciting tournament with a strong draw full of WTA stars.
The top seed, Iga Swiatek, will be looking to win her first title in Melbourne, in absence of the defending champion Ashleigh Barty, and she will begin her campaign against Jule Niemeier in the first round.
Already in the third round, we have a potential blockbuster match between Bianca Andreescu and the young Pole. Both are former Grand Slam champions, but the Canadian is unseeded and will start against no. 25 Marie Bouzkova in the first round.
At the opposite side of the draw, no. 2 Ons Jabeur, will begin her campaign against Tamara Zidansek, but she may face former Roland Garros finalist, Marketa Vondrousova in the second round as the Czech plays against Alison Riske-Amritraj in the first round.
No. 5 Aryna Sabalenka will meet Tereza Martincova in the first round and the fourth-seeded Caroline Garcia will play against a qualifier from Canada, Katherine Sebov.
The eighth-seeded Daria Kasatkina will play against compatriot Varvara Gracheva in the first round, as winner of this match can meet the 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria in the second.
No. 6 Maria Sakkari will begin against Yue Yuan from China and the 2022 Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina will start against Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Another player to keep an eye on is the third seed, Jessica Pegula, who has been in great form recently and will be attempting to lift her first major. She will play against Jaqueline Cristian and her compatriot, the seventh-seeded Coco Gauff will meet Katerina Siniakova.
The American can play against the Grand Slam champion already in the second round, as the 2021 US Open winner, Emma Raducanu takes on Tamara Korpatsch.
With the draw set, the 2023 Australian Open looks set to be a thrilling tournament with many exciting match-ups and the potential for some unexpected upsets.
