The 2023 Australian Open promises to be another exciting Grand Slam event in Melbourne, and once again, the prize money will make it even more so.
The defending champions at the 2023 Australian Open will be Rafael Nadal and Ashleigh Barty, but the women's singles champion will not be returning to the tournament after retiring in 2022.
At this year's event, the focus will be on the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas from the men's singles entry list. On the other hand, the likes of Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Ons Jabeur will compete in the women's singles.
As with all major tennis tournaments, the Australian Open offers significant financial incentives for players. On top of that, the Grand Slams offer the most points as well, so a good run means not only a good financial gain but also a move up the rankings for players.
The winner of the tournament will receive A$2,975,000 and 2,000 ranking points, while the runner-up will take home A$1,625,000 and 1200 points in men's singles and 1300 points in women's.
Those who finish their journey in the semi-finals will earn A$925,000 and 720 points in men's tournament and 780 points in women's, while the quarter-finalists will receive A$555,250 and 360 points for men and 430 points for women.
Players who make it to the round of 16 will receive A$338,250 and 180 points (men) or 240 points (women), and even those who don't advance beyond the round of 32 will still take home a cash prize of A$227,925 and 90 points for men and 130 points for women.
Also, the first rounds of the Australian Open will be very rewarding as players will receive A$158,850 for losing in the second round, and they can add 45 points to that on the ATP Tour and 70 for WTA players. For losing in the first round, everyone gets 10 points and A$106,250.
