Alongside a mixed ATP & WTA event (United Cup) the season will start with first WTA 500 event of the year that will be held from January 1st through 8th.
Players will have the first opportunity to earn points in 2023 and that will be at the Adelaide International 1 (1 because there are two events held in Adelaide in January). And it seems that many of them won't miss on this chance as entry list includes a plenty of Top 10 players.
Last year, Ashleigh Barty lifted the trophy in Adelaide before winning the first Grand Slam of the season. Similarly to the major in Melbourne, she won't defend her title at the first event of the season as she retired from professional tennis.
Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina and Misaki Doi were the other three semifinalists and only one of them is featured on the entry list. 2022 Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina will want to defend her points and she will take part at the event.
However, she won't be one of the seeded players as those spots are taken by likes of world no. 2 Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Daria Kasatkina and Veronika Kudermetova.
Last year's Australian Open finalist, Danielle Collins will also want to start her year strong as Anett Kontaveit, Jelena Ostapenko and Ekaterina Alexandrova should be the last three seeded players.
Bianca Andreescu, who is trying to return to the top of the WTA Rankings, will be also one of the unseeded players that can challenge for the title. Entry list includes many more interesting names and you can see it full below.
