Holger Rune has been collecting wins and negative headlines recently as the player is breaking out in a major way on the ATP Tour.
He is a controversial figure who plays tennis fairly aggressively and has recently enjoyed great success doing so. As you get great at anything, more people will try to refute your success, and when mixed with his occasionally unserious behaviour, this makes for a perfect storm for his detractors to attack him.
The most recent one came after a fan questioned Rune's mother sitting in his box:
"They just sit there tho, Runes mum think she is some sort of coach for him and she keep pointing and doing gestures during the game. Idk i dont think its good for him but what do i know."
Rune is very active on social media, especially Twitter where the comment was made and quickly responded: "It’s the winning team don’t worry. We know what we do."
Moreover, his mom reacted to and exchange with Stan Wawrinka on the net, when she said: “It is hard to imagine that a sportsman like Stan would have said that,” she told Denmark’s TV2. “Then he would come across as an uncommonly bad loser. Holger has only mentioned that he wished him well with the results of the past weeks.”
Rune is still playing at the Paris Masters where he'll face Andrey Rublev later today. The winner advances to the quarter-finals.
