Holger Rune had a major breakout year in 2022 proving himself as one of the best young players on the Tour.
He went a step further this year during the indoor season, taking home a trophy in Stockholm after defeating Tsitsipas in the final and the Paris Masters after defeating Djokovic. He now has a strong desire for more success, and with Patrick Mouratoglou as his mentor, he seems destined for greatness in the coming year.
“That’s my goal, to be world No. 1. Yeah, why not next year? Let’s see," said a very confident and determined Rune in a talk with Eurosport. Rune was in Turin this week waiting for a chance to play at the ATP Finals but it never came.
“We cannot predict the future. I would have been super excited just to go out there and play, [for the] first time here at Nitto Finals, it would be an awesome experience," said a somewhat reserved Rune trying to not sound disappointed.
“I would honestly take it like any other tournament, just to take one match at a time and see how far it could go, but it’s tough to predict," concluded Rune.
