WATCH: Medvedev's Racquet Takes Flight: Frustration Over Double Faults Even in Practice

| by Evita Mueller

Daniil Medvedev was very annoyed by the end of his practice against Holger Rune at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters, and we saw some flying racquets.

Daniil Medvedev has a solid track record in Cincinnati and is probably very happy about being back at the ATP 1000 event. The Russian won the event in 2019 and then played in two more semi-finals (2021, 2022), as he hopes familiarity helps him forget the unsatisfactory effort in Toronto.

Medvedev admitted to feeling the pressure of a return to hard courts due to his outstanding performances on the surface in the past. His tremendous success earlier this year only confirms that; however, it didn't go how he wanted in Toronto. Speaking after the match, Medvedev admitted he needs to adapt better.

He won two matches and made his way to the quarter-final but was beaten by Alex de Minaur. The Russian finished that match on a double fault and was visibly annoyed by it. It's not the last thing he finished with a double fault, as the same thing happened against Holger Rune during a practice set in Cincinnati.

Footage from the practice showed Medvedev losing the practice with a double fault, prompting him to showcase some throwing skills. Judging from the video, it's pretty clear he'd be a natural in axe throwing though he might need to bulk up a bit, considering the heaviness of axes.

In any case, fans pointed out that he struggled with doubles faults at the end of the practice set committing multiple and obviously things boiled over. It's nothing unusual as he's prone to the occasional outburst on a tennis court even though he's looking to actively eliminate it.

We'll see how things go against Musetti in the second round though he had no problems beating him in Toronto last week. When it comes to the racquet throw, check it out below.
