Novak Djokovic is largely known as a player capable of adapting to everything and anything and Daniil Medvedev wants to do the same.

The Serbian has been able to eliminate pretty much any weakness from his game. The ability to do so largely stems from the fact that he can adapt to any kind of conditions he might encounter. Slow or fast, dry or humid doesn't matter for Djokovic as he always knows how to approach it.

It's a fascinating ability and a skill Medvedev wants to develop because it would allow him to remain as good as he is for a long period of time. He spoke it following the loss to de Minaur in Toronto. It was a match where he didn't really adapt too well at times.

You know, we have guys like Novak. I'm sure that when he started 17 years ago winning Grand Slams, everything was different. The courts, the balls. He was still winning. So I just have to adapt.

Medvedev on adapting in tennis

The Russian has been one of the players affected with the balls becoming slower compared to previous years, something that he doesn't really like. He's not the only one but as he explained after the loss, some players will like it, some won't but those that don't ultimately have to adapt including him.

Again, as I say, I like faster balls. But if they go slower, I have to adapt and try to win with it. But as I say, against someone like Alex, it felt not easy today. But maybe it was also me who was just not at my best, and I didn't do enough with the ball.

Medvedev had problems with the balls to start the year but he quickly figured things out and won a couple of events. He'll have to keep that going to keep himself at the top.
