Novak Djokovic's fans might be slightly worried after the tennis legend cancelled his planned training session before the 2025 Wimbledon Championships semifinal against Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 to progress to his 14th Wimbledon semifinal. That is a record among men's players, even more than Roger Federer, who holds the record for most Wimbledon titles among ATP stars.
The Serbian did not get to enjoy that moment after a worrying incident a few points before the contest ended. On his second match point, Djokovic unexpectedly slipped and looked like he might have hurt himself.
Thankfully, the seven-time Wimbledon champion rose to his feet and completed the victory over Cobolli by winning the next two points. He looked relieved when walking to the net to shake hands with the Italian Open.
Djokovic spoke about the fall in his on-court interview. The former world No. 1 could not provide much insight into how bad the problem was soon after the match ended, and wanted to analyze it with his physio.
It is clear that Djokovic and the physio think a cautious approach is best after he decided not to practice from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, as he initially planned. The All England Club revealed the session was not going ahead.
No other details are currently available. The cancellation could indicate the problem is only minor and Djokovic just wants to take no chances before playing Sinner, but a more severe problem cannot be definitively ruled out.
Sinner faced a similar situation before his quarterfinal against Ben Shelton. This year's Australian Open hurt his elbow against Grigor Dimitrov, a match he trailed in by two sets before the Bulgarian retired with a more severe physical issue.
The world No. 1 also elected not to practice before competing against Shelton. Despite having his elbow heavily strapped throughout the encounter, Sinner was able to serve and hit groundstrokes cleanly from start to finish.
Both men having a physical issue of some kind adds some uncertainty to the contest. One of them being more hampered than the other might make a considerable difference to the final outcome.
Djokovic could be more concerned since he is 15 years older than Sinner. That makes him more vulnerable to injuries, even though the 24-time Grand Slam champion has managed his body phenomenally over the years.
In his 2025 Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev, Djokovic had to retire after the opening set because of an injury. The ten-time champion in Melbourne will be desperate to avoid a repeat of that situation.
It promises to be a terrific men's semifinal day at Wimbledon. Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz's match starts proceedings. Although Fritz is a superb player and has a chance, Alcaraz undoubtedly starts as the favorite.
Sinner's five consecutive wins(including the Six Kings Slam) against Djokovic mean some will consider him the favorite. However, the Serbian has won both their meetings at Wimbledon, and thinks his best chance of beating him is on grass.
