Novak Djokovic took a tumble on match point during his 2025
Wimbledon Championships quarterfinal against Flavio Cobolli and spoke about it immediately afterward.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion held two match points on serve at 5-4, 40-15. Cobolli hit an incredible return to save the first, and the second led to a rally between the pair, who traded many powerful blows during the contest.
Djokovic's slip can be watched in the video below. It happened very suddenly while he was in the middle of the court behind the baseline, and the Serbian looked in visible discomfort afterward.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner showed his trademark mental strength to recover from that fall, win the last two points, and set up an eagerly anticipated semifinal against the
ATP world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who overcame Ben Shelton.
Unsurprisingly, Djokovic was asked about his fall during the on-court interview afterward. He was relieved to finish the match and planned to speak with his physio to ensure everything was well for the semifinal.
"I finished the match, so.... (laughs). Yeah, I had a nasty slip, but that's what happens when you play on the grass. I hadn't fallen yet this year, and it's a bit surprising for me because of how I move on the grass with the sliding and the aggressive movement."
"It did come at the awkward moment, but somehow I managed to find a good serve and close it out. Obviously, I'm going to visit this subject now with my physio now, and hopefully, all will be well in two days."
Djokovic revolutionized grass-court movement by sliding on it, something that was deemed too risky by many for years. His ability to stay in the points with that style has been a key reason for achieving so much at SW19.
As the tennis legend said in his interview, his slipping on any surface is surprising. Those moments happen more on grass compared to other surfaces, but the Serbian hitting the deck will always be unexpected.
Djokovic did not seem overly concerned when speaking about it. He cannot afford to step onto the court against Sinner with any kind of physical ailment because the world No. 1 will be ruthless in taking advantage of any weaknesses.
Sinner has also had a slight injury worry.
The Italian was doubtful for his quarterfinal against Shelton because of an elbow issue, but seemed okay throughout the contest despite having heavy strapping on the impacted area.
If both men are fully fit, Djokovic and Sinner's Wimbledon battle could be one of the best of 2025. The 10-time Australian Open winner has admitted that his best chance of beating Sinner and Alcaraz is on grass.
That is especially true against Sinner. The Italian has beaten him four consecutive times in ATP matches, and five straight times if their encounter at the 2024 Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia is included, but none of those were on grass.
They could also meet at the 2025 Six Kings Slam after
this year's entry list was announced. Sinner, Djokovic, and Alcaraz will all return for the exhibition tournament.
