The 2022 Halle Open final was rocked by a distressing incident involving a court invader in the match between Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz.

A few weeks ago, a protester ran onto the court and tied herself to the net during the match between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic at the French Open. Now, a similar situation has happened during the ATP 500 event in Halle, shocking everyone involved, including the security officials.

The incident overshadowed the tennis on display when a spectator evaded security momentarily to enter the stadium court and tried to tie himself onto the net.

However, he was quickly apprehended and dragged away from the scene before fulfilling his intentions, and the fans and commentators were left stunned.

Television cameras quickly zoomed out, and the bizarre incident was barely shown, so the man who attempted to interrupt the final match didn't get the minute of fame that he was hoping for.

Upon resumption of play, Hurkacz went on to win the title with a routine win over Medvedev. The final score read 6-1, 6-4 in favor of the Pole, who lifted his first title of the season.

Hurkacz atoned for last week's defeat to Marton Fucsovics in the first round of the Stuttgart Open, which means he will be going to Wimbledon high on confidence and potentially rank as one of the dark horses.

Medvedev's chase for his first title of the season continues. It's the second successive final on grass that he's lost after the Libema Open. Unfortunately, it mirrored the same result from the Netherlands, where he was beaten by the wild card Tim van Rijthoven.

The World No. 1 will now try his luck at the ATP 250 in Mallorca knowing full well he won't be competing at Wimbledon because of the ban imposed on Russian players.
