Carlos Alcaraz added yet another tournament to his schedule in 2025, and he will once again play at an event that he has never played before.

The young Spaniard chose a different approach to his schedule in 2025. In the previous seasons, Alcaraz traveled to South America after the Australian Open to compete in a so-called Golden Swing.

This approach is often adopted by players who are significantly better on clay than on hard courts. A few tournaments on the red dirt give them a chance to earn some valuable ranking points and record some wins before returning to the hard courts for the Sunshine Double.

The proximity of the Australian Open and the Sunshine Doubles (two ATP Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami) is the reason why many top players choose not to insert a little clay-court swing in between.

Alcaraz did that in previous years, and he was successful, winning the Rio Open title in 2022, and the Argentina Open in 2023. In 2024, however, he left South America without titles, and on top of that, with an injured ankle, as he retired from his match in Rio de Janeiro after only two games.

Maybe it was also one of the reasons why Alcaraz chose a different approach to the 2025 season. He will start at the Australian Open, but after that, he won't travel to South America.

First, he will compete at the Rotterdam Open, where he never played before. Now, he added another tournament that he had never played before to his schedule as Alcaraz joins an incredibly strong field for the 2025 Qatar Open in Doha.

In 2025, the tournament was upgraded to an ATP 500 event, attracting some of the best players in the world. Jannik Sinner will play in Doha, and Novak Djokovic will also compete at the Qatar Open.

These three players have won all of the last 10 Grand Slam titles, showing how an incredibly strong field of players will compete in Doha from February 17th to 23rd.

The tournament organizers were delighted to bring a player of Alcaraz's qualities, especially with Sinner and Djokovic already signed up. Karim Alami, who serves as the tournament director, was very happy to announce the Spaniard's participation.

"We are thrilled to welcome Carlos Alcaraz to Doha for the first time, especially as the Qatar ExxonMobil Open enters a new era as an ATP 500 event. His presence reflects the tournament’s growing prestige on the global tennis stage."
"Alcaraz is a phenomenal young talent whose skill and charisma are sure to ignite excitement among fans and elevate the competitive spirit of this year’s event. We look forward to an unforgettable tournament."

After the Qatar Open, Alcaraz will have an option to compete at another ATP 500 event, the Dubai Championships, which starts on February 24th. It is a popular "double" for players due to the proximity of the two events.

After that, the Sunshine Double starts on March 5th in Indian Wells and continues on March 19th in Miami. Alcaraz will, of course, compete at both of those ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.
