Hubert Hurkacz is still undefeated in the finals after beating Daniil Medvedev in the Halle Open final on Sunday 6-1 6-4.

There is a lot to unpack in this match but let's start with the winning player. Not only did Hubert Hurkacz move to 5-0 in the finals, which is impressive, but he also defeated the reigning world number one which is also a first. You all read the scoreline above, and yes it was that dominant. For the 2nd week in a row, Medvedev played a very loose final and once again he paid the price.

It's not like Medvedev threw either of these matches, he simply played the way he played all week long. There was very little thinking in Medvedev's game in Halle this week and the final was the same. He was simply off from the start and never quite found his rhythm. He suffered from the same thing at Roland Garros when Cilic rolled him easily.

His serve was not working, his groundstrokes were sailing wide while Hurkacz was simply superb from start to finish. He kept on accepting the gifts Medvedev was sending and he took the opening set 6-1. The 2nd set followed a similar pattern. A bit too loose to start and an early break for the Polish player. From there Hurkacz focused on his serve and he largely had no issues.
