World number 205, Tim Van Rijthoven defeated Daniil Medvedev, who will return to the first spot of the ATP Rankings on Monday, in the final of the 2022 Libema Open.

While it was obvious goal for the Russian to win the title in 's-Hertogenbosch, his opponent, Tim Van Rijthoven, received a wild-card for the tournament and no one expected him to win it as he was the third lowest-ranked player in the draw.

Before the final, the young Dutch player said: “I don’t know where to start. I got the wild card here which was already a surprise for me. I was just happy to play one or two matches at least. To be in the final is just incredible, I have no words.”

He will be even happier after the final as he managed to defeat world number 2, Daniil Medvedev in an hour to win his first ATP title in his career. In the first set, he got an early break, but Medvedev quickly got the break back as he also needed to take a medical timeout.

Yet, the Russian has decided to continue in the match but he never managed to get another break point in the match, while his opponent got plenty. Van Rijthoven dominated during the majority of the match and the result showed it when he won 6-4, 6-1 to win his maiden ATP title.
