Casper Ruud will compete at the Laver Cup once again, extending his number of consecutive appearances at the event.
Despite regularly attracting the best players in the world and being officially recognized by the ATP, the Laver Cup is still an exhibition event. There are no points given for competing at this team tournament, but that never impacts its strong lineup of players.
After Team Europe hosted the 2024 edition in Berlin, Germany, the 2025 edition will be played on Team World's soil again. San Francisco's Chase Center will host the event, which will see Team Europe and Team World clash for the eighth time.
This time, it will be under different captains and vice-captains, as those have changed for the 2025 edition. Yannick Noah and Tim Henman will lead Team Europe, while Andre Agassi and Pat Rafter will coach Team World.
Team World's line-up already includes some exciting names, as Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul, and young prodigy Joao Fonseca have all signed up for the tournament.
Team Europe has now announced four players as well. Previously, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune were the three announced players, and Casper Ruud has now joined them.
For Ruud, it will be his fifth consecutive appearance at the event. He first played in 2021 and has competed every year since. He has won two editions with the team, played six matches, out of which he managed to win four, three in singles and one in doubles.
The Norwegian player is looking forward to his fifth appearance, which he mentioned in a statement provided after his announcement. He also mentioned that he looks forward to playing under Noah and Henman.
"The Laver Cup is incredible, bringing together Europe, with its rich tennis history, to take on the rest of the world. I love representing Europe, and doing my best for the whole continent, not just my country. The team aspect is unique – getting to play alongside guys who are usually my rivals and to support each other is something we don’t experience often."
"I’m also really looking forward to playing in front of Yannick and Tim for the first time – they are a dynamic duo and it’s going to be really cool. And, I’m excited to visit San Francisco for the first time. I’m a big Golden State Warriors fan, so playing in Chase Center will be something special."
Chase Center is certainly a special venue, and for Ruud, who supports the Warriors, it will make this edition of the tournament even more special. This year's Laver Cup will run from September 19th until September 21st, in the standard format.
That means there will be three singles matches and one doubles match played each day. On Day 1 of the event, one point will be awarded for each win, on Day 2, there will be two points up for grabs for every win, and three points will be given for winning on Day 3.
For captain Yannick Noah, it will be a premiere at the Laver Cup, and he believes Ruud is a player who might help him succeed. So far, Team Europe has been more successful than Team World.
"Casper is a great competitor who brings experience, passion and composure to the team environment. He understands the spirit of the Laver Cup and is exactly the kind of player you want by your side. I’m delighted he’s back."
