WATCH: Djokovic Hilariously Attempts To Dry Slippery Wimbledon Centre Court During Rain Delay

Novak Djokovic attempted to dry Wimbledon's Centre Court after the play was stopped due to rain.

The first day of the 2023 Wimbledon started with a match of the men's singles defending champion Novak Djokovic, facing off against Argentinian opponent, Pedro Cachin. What started as an ordinary match, with Djokovic securing the first set 6-3, quickly took an unexpected turn as rainfall forced a temporary pause.

While short breaks due to weather are commonplace in tennis, this delay at the hallowed Centre Court lasted longer than anticipated. With the rain washed away and the roof closed, the dampness of the court remained, slowing down the game's resumption.

The No. 1 Court, which also has the roof, had already wrapped up its first match in which Iga Swiatek defeated Lin Zhu, and was commencing the next between Casper Ruud and Laurent Lokoli. However, the Centre Court became a spectacle of its own, not for another volley of intense tennis, but for a humorous scene involving the world No. 2.

With the conditions unplayable and the audience restless, Djokovic lightened the mood in his characteristic jovial style. He grabbed a towel and proceeded to dry the slippery court. It was a task generally performed by staff armed with high-powered leaf blowers, yet here was one of the game's most decorated players, mimicking their actions with an ordinary towel.

For a moment, the Serb switched his role from tennis player to ground staff, all while sporting a grin that charmed viewers worldwide. His attempt was simultaneously funny and symbolic, offering a reminder of the lighter side of sports, even amidst highly competitive scenarios.

The 36-year-old was also heard talking to his box, suggesting that they should blow on the court to help it dry faster. He was obviously in a joking mood and it's obvious that the Serb is relaxed ahead of what can be a historic tournament for him.
