Carlos Alcaraz is very keen on sportsmanship and the Spaniard has made headlines more than a couple of times with his fair behaviour during matches.
The latest instalment of that came at Wimbledon. In his match against German Oscar Otte, Alcaraz gave fans another look at the type of character he is on and off the court.
The match did not prove complicated for the man from Murcia, with him largely cruising past the German without many problems. However, there was one superb rally which the umpire ended up stopping mid-point, much to the crowd's disappointment.
Otte played a drop shot that brought Alcaraz in to the net, with the Spaniard subsequently sending the ball over the net. Otte successfully got to it and played it around the net for a winner.
However, in the midst of all the excitement, the line judge had called Alcaraz' shot out. Realising it was an error of judgement and that it was in fact in, chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani overrode the decision, calling it in.
He initially called for the point to be replayed but Alcaraz soon denied himself the opportunity to have a second bite of the cherry, waving it away and conceding the point to Otte in good sportsmanship. He received an ovation for it from the SW19 crowd.
His opponent Otte seemed grateful for the call that came from the other side of the net too, with him acknowledging the gesture.
It ended up being a comfortable win for the Spaniard, with him seeing off the veteran German 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. This keeps up his formidable form on the London grass and sees him set up a mouth-watering quarter-final tie with none other than next-gen rival Jannik Sinner.
