"I can always do better" - Djokovic aiming for more after Kecmanovic victory

Friendly fire is not something Novak Djokovic knows about and he proved it by smashing compatriot Kecmanovic at Wimbledon.

Djokovic started off in spectacular fashion serving a bagel to Miomir Kecmanovic who was not too appreciative of it. He backed up his displeasure with better play moving forward but was not nearly enough to take down a very focused Djokovic. That focus is signalling to Djokovic that his tennis is improving and anybody with eyes can attest to that.

I think I’ve been playing better and better as the tournament progresses. That’s obviously something that you always wish for as a player, that every match that you play you raise the level of tennis up a notch at least, and I think that is what is happening at the moment. I know I can always do better. I always expect the highest from myself, but I think so far, so good, and looking forward to the next challenge.

Djokovic did not drop his serve pretty much until the end of the match when he allowed Kecmanovic to pull one break back. He practically lost only three points on his serve until that break at 5-2 in the final set. The high level is quite evident and he was particularly pleased about the strong early start. It's been a problem in the past.

I thought I started off very, very well. Very strong with a lot of good intensity, good focus. I know Miomir quite well, we train a lot obviously coming from Serbia. I’m really glad that he, alongside a couple of other players, is doing well. I wish him all the best, hopefully we will get to play many more times on the centre courts of the biggest tournaments.
