Jannik Sinner reached yet another Australian Open semi-final after absolutely easily dispatching Alex de Minaur.

The two protagonists of the last quarter-final match of the Australian Open know each other really well, unfortunately for De Minaur. Before this match, they met nine times before.

In all of those matches, De Minaur managed to win a total of one set. He lost all nine matches, and Sinner won 23 out of 24 sets that they played.

The Australian's lack of firepower is unfortunately too big of an obstacle for him against a player like Sinner, who is one of the hardest hitters on the ATP Tour, which is also one of the reasons why he's the World No. 1 player.

Although he lost a set against Holger Rune in the previous round, Sinner didn't struggle in this match at all, completely dominating against De Minaur once again.

The top seed started by breaking De Minaur's serve already in the fourth game, after which he led 3-1. He then held his serve for the remainder of the set, never having to face a break point.

Thanks to his dominance on his serve, but in rallies in general, Sinner won the first set 6-3. De Minaur couldn't find solutions at all, which is why he was broken also at the start of the second set.

In the following game, the Australian player had his only break point of the match, but he couldn't use it after he sent the forehand return wide, which is why the World No. 1 player was able to hold his serve.

Sinner then added another break to win the second set easily 6-2. The crowd at the Rod Laver Arena not only supported their player because of patriotism, but they also wanted to get their money's worth, as they paid a lot for the night match tickets.

Unfortunately for them, that didn't happen, as the third set was the most dominant one and lasted only 30 minutes. Sinner won the match 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 50 minutes to reach the semi-finals of the 2025 Australian Open.

His next opponent will be Ben Shelton, who bested Lorenzo Sonego. For Sinner, it was an important win on his way to defending the title in Melbourne, and he was happy about his win.

During his on-court interview with Jim Courier, the Italian also spoke about his physical issues from his previous match, saying he managed to recover fast.

"Yesterday was a very easy day. I played for just half an hour with my coaches, so they gave my a good rhythm. When you’re young, you recover very fast. It’s a bit different."
