Toni Nadal once again expressed a negative view towards overly aggressive playstyles in tennis that we see today saying it will ruin the careers of many players.

Nadal has long opposed that kind of tennis and thinks a more reasonable approach would be better for both the game and the players. He discussed his objections to the aggressive playstyles in his column for El Pais.

Today I am going to regret, once again, that the tennis leaders have spent so long without doing anything to protect the players a bit from a discipline that has gradually become too aggressive. It seems that no one is willing to slow down the speed of the ball, also hindering the showiness of the execution and the tactics, and to reduce the suddenness to which the body of the tennis players is subjected to return it and to maintain, in turn, the required speed.

According to Nadal, opting for a more moderate way of playing tennis and making adjustments in the sport itself could see players extend their careers for much longer which would benefit the sport greatly instead of seeing players getting injured more and more.

The problem has been evident for a long time and, even so, no measure has been taken to reduce the intensity of the rallies and the fact that too many tennis players of the stature of Gustavo Kuerten , Magnus Norman, Lleyton Hewitt (all of them former number one), to name just a few, had to retire early.

Nadal's column comes days after his nephew, Rafael Nadal, injured himself trying to catch an inside out forehand by McDonald. It's always been a struggle for Nadal to match some of the best hitters on hard courts and it's only gotten worse over the years.
