She entered the 2023 Australian Open as the top seed and has defeated every opponent without losing a set so far. First, Swiatek defeated Jule Niemeier, 6-4, 7-5, and then she quickly ousted also Camila Osorio 6-2, 6-3 in a match that was played under a closed roof.
In the third round, the WTA World No. 1 player faced off against World No. 100, Cristina Bucsa. The Spanish player outplayed Eva Lys in the first round, and then she stunned former Grand Slam champion, Bianca Andreescu in the second round.
She certainly wanted to add another win against a major winner against Swiatek, but the Polish player dominated the match from start to finish. She hit 15 winners while making only six unforced errors and won more than 82% of points on her serve.
On the other hand, her opponent couldn't find her rhythm as she hit only four winners and made 21 unforced errors. Thanks to that, Swiatek was up 6-0, 5-0 after around 50 minutes, and it seemed that she wouldn't allow her opponent to win a single game.
Yet, the Spanish player fought and succeeded in winning her only game of the match, as the Pole cruised to a comfortable victory, 6-0, 6-1, in 55 minutes of play.
In the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open, the World No. 1 player will face off against the 2022 Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina, who defeated her at an exhibition event a few weeks ago.
