Felix Auger-Aliassime became Canada's national hero on the Saturday night after successfully winning two consecutive matches.

After Denis Shapovalov lost to Lorenzo Sonego in the first match of their semifinal tie at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals, Canada's chances of advancing weren't really high. However, Felix Auger-Aliassime first won singles match against Lorenzo Musetti and then teamed up with Vasek Pospisil for doubles.

On the other side of the court, Matteo Berrettini made surprising appearance as he competed alongside Fabio Fognini for Italy, instead of Simone Bolelli, who usually plays doubles with Fognini.

In both sets it looked better for the Italian team. They got the first break in the first set as they led 3-1 early on. However, they got broken back and in a tie-break, Auger-Aliassime and Pospisil easily won 7-2.

In the second set, Berrettini and Fognini led once more by one break, but again, the Canadian duo fought back. This time, they got one more break to win the match 7-6(2), 7-5 in two hours and three minutes and booked Canada's place in the final against Australia.
