Novak Djokovic won't be competing during the 2022 Davis Cup group stages as Serbia is set to play in Valencia from September 13th until 18th.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion appeared in the Serbian Davis Cup team already in 2004 and played a total of 32 ties since then. Overall, Novak Djokovic won 38 matches and lost only 7 and he was usually the deciding factor that took his team to the victory.

However, during the group stages of the 2022 Davis Cup, he won't join the team. In Group B, Serbia is set to play against Spain, Korea and Canada as many anticipated another meeting between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

But that won't happen as the Serbian coach, Viktor Troicki confirmed that it won't happen as he named five players that will travel to Valencia. With the Serbian no. 1 not talking part, the nomination includes: Miomir Kecmanovic, Filip Krajinovic, Laslo Djere, Dusan Lajovic and Nikola Cacic.

"We started preparations. The first day is always special, when we are all together after a long time. We are in Belgrade until Friday, when we leave for Spain, where I believe in our good games and placement in the final competition in Malaga in November, when Novak would join us. This time our best tennis player had to cancel his participation in the Davis Cup for personal reasons," said coach Viktor Troicki.

"He won’t play due to personal reasons. He was there for the national team countless times, but this time he can’t. If we make it to Malaga, he will join us," added Troicki.
