Nick Kyrgios played his first Grand Slam final against Novak Djokovic at this year's Wimbledon, and according to Frances Tiafoe, the Australian should have won.

While Djokovic can't compete at the 2022 US Open, both Tiafoe and Kyrgios won their first matches in New York. The Australian started with a win over his good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis, while Tiafoe also bested a compatriot, in his case, Marcos Giron.

After his first-round win at the event, Tiafoe also spoke about the 2022 Wimbledon Championships final. According to him, Kyrgios should have won the tournament, but the experience played to Djokovic's advantage.

"I totally think so. You think where Nick was at. I mean, I say it straight out, I think he should have won Wimbledon. I think he was the better player in that final. Novak mentally, he got exposed. That's where the experience kicked in for Novak. I think tennis-wise, Nick played a better match."

Kyrgios won the first set of the match, but eventually, Djokovic's experience showed. The Serbian legend prevailed in four sets to win his 21st Grand Slam trophy.

However, Tiafoe still feels like the draws are now much more wide open than they used to be. According to the American player, he can beat the best players, the only problem is doing it consistently over two weeks to win a Grand Slam.

"There's guys that can do that. I mean, I've beaten guys in big matches, slams, big courts. Just a matter of doing it for two weeks, getting the rest, make quarterfinals, bunch of fourth rounds."
"Again, it's not like you got to beat Murray in his prime and DelPo, Fed. It's not the case any more. I mean, guys are good, but the level is not as drastic. Like Novak, as well. I think anybody can win. I mean, anyone who's really got the game."
