Nick Kyrgios dropped a very close opening set against Nikoloz Basilashvili but rallied to beat the Georgian 6-7(4) 6-4 6-4.

Kyrgios is now in the quarterfinal of the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart after another very solid win over a good Basilashvili. The Georgian is very similar to Fabio Fognini, he can alternate between two versions of himself depending on the day. Today was a good day for him but he was unable to outlast Kyrgios in this one.

The opening set was a close one. Kyrgios was forced to save break points first and he was able to do it. Then it was Basilashvili's turn to save some break points and he was able to do it. He even saved set points late in the set to force a tiebreak. He then outplayed Kyegios taking it 7-4.

The 3rd set opened with an early break for Kyrgios and that's all he needed. He focused on his serve and he held it rather easily not allowing a single break point the entire set. He won it 6-4 and we went into a 3rd set. It opened well for both as neither faced any issues winning their service games. Kyrgios got the first break as Basilashvili lost his patience towards the end.

He dropped serve at 3-3 and Kyrgios took the 5-3 lead finishing it off with another break 6-3. It was a solid match by both as Kyrgios had 20 aces with Nikoloz adding 17.
