Martina Navratilova thinks that Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina are the players to beat in Miami picking them both to win the event.
Alcaraz and Rybakina are playing superb tennis right now as they were crowned champions last week in Indian Wells too. According to Navratilova who is in Miami working on the event and talked to the Tennis Channel, both are likely to win this event as well because nobody is playing better tennis right now.
You have to go with Alcaraz and Rybakina. I think they have a really good shot at winning the Sunshine Double, which I don't know if it has been done by both at the same time. But it could be a first. They both have a shot at it, they are the players to beat. Rybakina is in form and healthy.
It wouldn't be a first because it has been done before as we saw two players win the Sunshine Double in the same year three times in the past. The first time it was done was in 1994 when Pete Sampras won the ATP one and Steffi Graf won the WTA one.
Kim Clijsters and Roger Federer both won the Sunshine Double in 2005 and Victoria Azarenka and Novak Djokovic did it in 2016. If Alcaraz and Rybakina win it this year, they'll become only the 4th pair in history to achieve that remarkable feat.
Navratilova further singled out Alcaraz as a player to watch this week due to his high level and serious attitude.
And of course, same with Alcaraz. Now healthy, I don't know how he fixed that leg but he did and he's looking very, very sharp. Every match is a Wimbledon final to him, he's fired up the same way for every single match and he's in there. I just look forward to watching great matches.
