Nick Kyrgios and Holger Rune have a very good relationship and now the Dane revealed how it all started.
Only a. couple of months ago, the Australian stated that he would like to help Rune as a coach or a mentor. Back then, many were wondering why Kyrgios chose the youngster from Denmark, but now everything is very clear.
19-year-old Rune burst onto the scene just last year and this season, he's already a Top 10 player that is considered as one of the favourites at every ATP event that he joins. However, only a couple of years ago, the teenager competed on the Challenger and Futures Tour, and back then he received a very valuable advice.
The young Dane talked to Nick Kyrgios, who is one of the most talented players in men's tennis. According to Rune, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist helped him with tactics and since then, 'they have a great relationship and he respects him a lot'.
“I was playing on Futures tour. He was very nice to help me out with tactics & very polite. I was just like ‘Ok I’ll give it a chance & try to text him’ and he replied. Since then we’ve had a great relationship. I respect him a lot. He’s a hell of a player.”
Rune is one of the players who can fight for Grand Slam titles in the future and also according to his own words, he still reached only 60% of his potential.
This year, he won 14 of 20 matches that he played and although he's yet to win a title, it's very likely to come after lifting three trophies in 2022. One of those was also the Masters' title from Paris, which he lifted after defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.
