Nick Kyrgios might still be a player, but he could become a coach after his playing career, and he already knows who he would like to help.
The Australian player had the most successful season of his life in 2022 when he won the Australian Open doubles title and later also reached the Wimbledon singles final.
Unfortunately, the 2023 season didn't start well for him, as he was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open because of knee surgery. Also because of that, he had time to talk to some of the fans while the first Grand Slam of the season has yet to finish.
Kyrgios held a Q&A session on his Instagram, and he was asked plenty of different questions. One of those was whether he would consider coaching or mentoring some of the current ATP players in the future.
Surprisingly, Kyrgios not only said that he would coach someone, but he also had an exact player he would want to coach. The Australian named rising star Holger Rune.
The young Danish player became known to fans around the world in 2022 when he reached the final at the Paris Masters, and stunned the 21-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, in that final.
"Yes, I would love this!!! The one person I want to help is Holger Rune!!!"
At the moment, Rune is coached by Patrick Mouratoglou. The experienced French coach has previously worked with the likes of Serena Williams, and the young Dane is certainly in good hands.
At the Australian Open this year, he reached the fourth round just to brutally lose to Andrey Rublev in a five-set battle. Unlike Kyrgios, he will now focus on the upcoming tournaments.
The Australian player, on the other hand, will focus his efforts on recovery after surgery. He is expected to return at the Indian Wells Open in March.
