Nick Kyrgios underwent knee surgery, and according to his agent, it was a great success, and he should return to the tennis courts very soon.
The 27-year-old Australian was forced to pull out of the 2023 Australian Open because of knee surgery, and therefore, he couldn't challenge for the singles title, nor could he defend his doubles triumph with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
But Kyrgios made a decision that should be beneficial for him in the long term, and right now, it appears to be a successful decision. He underwent knee surgery, and the first reports look very promising for the Australian player.
His agent, Daniel Horsfall provided an update about the recovery process of the 2022 Wimbledon finalist, speaking to the Australian publications The Herald and The Age.
Horsfall called Kyrgios' surgery "a great success." He was confident enough to even provide an estimated comeback date, saying that Kyrgios could return already at the 2023 Indian Wells Open.
"The surgery was a great success. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome of it. Now we will be pushing ahead for a speedy recovery and are aiming to see everyone at Indian Wells."
The tournament in Indian Wells is the first ATP Masters 1000 event on the calendar, and it starts on March 8th, which means Kyrgios would have slightly over a month to return to the tennis courts. Horsfall also revealed that Kyrgios will stay at home in Canberra, spending time with his family.
"For now, Mumma K [Nick’s mother, Nill Kyrgios] will have her work cut out for her having everyone around the home for a little while. Nick will stay back in Canberra. His plan is to eat delicious food and play a lot of Pokemon."
"But on a more serious note, Will [physiotherapist Will Maher] and NK will be in the gym still working on the rest of his body to make sure he stays fit and fresh in the meantime."
