Carlos Alcaraz will take on Tommy Paul for a spot in the 2023 Miami Open quarterfinals and according to his coach, he's ready for it.

Without a doubt, Juan Carlos Ferrero is a major part of the Spaniard's success as he led him to all of his biggest triumphs. The recent victory at an ATP 1000 event in Indian Wells was no different and now, the Spanish coach will hope that Alcaraz will complete the Sunshine Double in Miami.

After defeating Dusan Lajovic in the third round, the Spanish teenage sensation, who always finds time to meet fans during his off days, will meet home player Tommy Paul, who will be supported by the home crowd. Currently, Alcaraz is the World No. 1 but if he wants to keep the spot, he needs to win in Miami. According to Ferrero, the position in the ATP Rankings doesn't affect his protégé.

"I don’t think that Carlos being No. 1 or No. 2 influences him too much in terms of how he approaches matches. It’s true that as you get higher, you often feel the pressure around you, of being a favourite, that you have to win almost all your matches."

Ferrero also explained how important it is for Alcaraz to get into the state of flow and dominate on the tennis court. Therefore, they focused on this part in his recent development.

"But if Carlos has his mind on that all the time, his tennis won’t flow. That’s why we’ve tried to focus on this aspect of his growth so that everything goes well in terms of flowing on court."

Still, only 19-year-old sensation is maturing ever day and he has a big future ahead of him. Ferrero knows which areas of his game need focus and he approaches it accordingly.

"He’s working well and he’s focused, and he looks more mature on court. That’s making him play better. He’s gained quite a lot of confidence in his game. And apart from serving and returning well, for me his mobility is among the best on tour at the moment. That means he covers the court very well and makes him difficult to beat."
