The 2025
Winston-Salem Open is the last scheduled tournament before the 2025 US Open, and the
prize money and ranking point rewards have been released.
Unsurprisingly, the Winston-Salem Open usually struggles to attract players at the very top because of its proximity to the US Open. Many will have already arrived in preparation for the year's final Grand Slam while the tournament in Winston-Salem is underway.
The US Open's new mixed doubles format only added to that issue. To entice the best players to participate, the event is scheduled for August 19th and 20th during the event's fan week.
Although many terrific pairs, including Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu, are committed to playing, there have been some withdrawals.
They include Jannik Sinner's partner, putting the world No. 1's involvement in doubt.
Despite that challenge, the Winston-Salem Open organizers managed to secure the services of some good players. The most high-profile was
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is back working with his father after
splitting with Goran Ivanisevic.
Tsitsipas and the other players will fight for the biggest share of the $798,335 prize money pot. The
ATP 250 event is scheduled for August 17th to 23rd, finishing on a Saturday to accommodate the US Open starting on Sunday.
This year's Winston-Salem Open champion will receive $109,640. That is decent for a 250-level tournament, with some other events not reaching six figures for any round. The winner will also collect 250 points.
Lorenzo Sonego was the 2024 winner. The Italian produced a clinical performance against home favorite Alex Michelsen, triumphing 6-0, 6-3. Daniil Medvedev and Marin Cilic are among the other former champions.
The 2025 runner-up will earn $62,895 and 165 ranking points. Jiri Lehecka, Tomas Berdych, and Gael Monfils are among the players who have been losing finalists at the American tournament.
Pablo Carreno Busta and David Goffin were last year's defeated semifinalists. Carreno Busta's match with Michelsen ended with him sadly retiring, another injury problem after he recovered from a lengthy spell out with an elbow problem.
Whichever men replicate that achievement will receive 100 points and $36,120. For non-seeded players, four wins are needed to reach the Winston-Salem Open semifinals.
Rinky Hijikata, Christopher Eubanks, Learner Tien, and Pavel Kotov were 2024's defeated quarterfinalists. The ATP stars who fall in this year's quarterfinals will be handed $20,860 and 50 points.
The rewards continue to become more scant at the round of 16 stage, with $11,915 and 25 points on offer. Top players would be disappointed with that, but 25 points could make a difference to lower-ranked players.
$7,005 and 13 points will be given to players who fall in the round of 32. The Top 16 seeds are given byes into that stage, guaranteeing them those sums. Players who exit in the opening round are not awarded any ranking points, but will still have $4,260 added to their bank accounts.
Hopefully, the last ATP tournament before the US Open provides much entertainment for fans to enjoy.
