Daniil Medvedev hopes to see Novak Djokovic playing at the US Open because he wants to see his rivalry with Nadal continue.

That is not the only reason why Medvedev wants Djokovic to play at the US Open but also because of the Russian values events that host all the best players. Events without them don't feel as important and it's understandable. It's nothing new in tennis and it's a view shared by many fans with plenty of evidence supporting it.

Just recently both Djokovic and Nadal missed the Montreal Masters and Pablo Carreno Busta ended up as the champion. Deserved but still. For Medvedev, it's simple, he wants to see him in New York:

"Yeah for sure, I cannot do anything. It is the government that sets the rule, so I do not know if it can actually change or not. If you ask me, I mean If I would be the decision-maker, for sure I want Novak to play. I mean, I like when on the tournament there are the best players in the world. He just won a slam. This competition is super intense and super interesting. So I would love to see him there in New York."

Medvedev is unsure whether Djokovic will be permitted to play but if he doesn't well, he thinks it will still be a good event:

"But if the government's rules, he cannot be there well, everybody is still going to try to do their best and try and win the US Open."

The Russian is the defending champion and for him, it's all about winning it again, regardless of who plays or not.
