Daniil Medvedev triumphed in Los Cabos ensuring himself a stay at number one for a while but Carlos Alcaraz has a chance to knock him off it.

In order for the Spaniard to overtake Medvedev as number one, certain things need to happen and obviously, it has to do with how they perform in the next few weeks. Alcaraz needs to have a superb two weeks in Montreal and Cincinnati. If the Spaniard reaches the final or even wins the event he will have a chance to overtake Medvedev in Cincinnati.

The Russian is the defending champion this week so unless he wins the event he'll lose points. Alcaraz can mostly gain points. The difference is currently almost 2000 points but Medvedev needs to have a strong showing this week. Anything but a final ensures a pretty decent chance for Alcaraz to overtake him if the Spaniard plays well.

Rafael Nadal could also overtake him and he too needs an early exit from Medvedev in Montreal. The Spaniard is not playing this week due to an injury but if he returns in Cincinnati and plays well he can have a chance if Medvedev suffers an early exit in Montreal.
