Australia reached the 2022 Davis Cup Finals final and they were only one step away from ending the season as champions.

Despite bringing a very strong team to Malaga, Australia's captain Lleyton Hewitt missed one very important player in his line-up. Australian no. 1 in singles and doubles, Nick Kyrgios didn't join the team for the 2022 Davis Cup Finals and after their loss, both captain Hewitt and team's no. 1 Alex de Minaur admitted that they tried to convince their compatriot.

"I can't try any harder (smiling). Of course. I try and come here with the best possible team we could field," Hewitt said. Previously, former world no. 1 spoke about Kyrgios' participation, when he said:

“Well, obviously we would have loved to have Nick play. You know, he's had an incredible year and not played that many tournaments, to be honest," said Hewitt. "Yeah, we all know the capability of how he can play high-level tennis when he's motivated."

When talking about the 2022 Wimbledon finalist and attempts to convince him to participate at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals, Alex de Minaur joined the discussion and added: "I have tried, as well. Just wasn't meant to be."
