Novak Djokovic will make a return to the Australian Open in 2023 with the CEO of the event Tiley happy to have the best player in the world back.

Djokovic's trip to Melbourne last year was cut short by his expulsion, which came after his visa was revoked for reasons of public safety. Everyone who was involved suffered as a result, and Tiley is glad to welcome Djokovic back this year with far less commotion.

“I think this could be the year … I’ve been around long enough to know that the Australian Open unearths and uncovers the greats of the future," said Tiley when asked about Djokovic winning a record 10th in Melbourne.

“If you look at [Djokovic’s] form – you can argue he’s the best player in the world. He’s an unbelievable tennis player and this is the place he’s won the most … He’ll be very hungry to not let the young guns on the men’s side take the title from him," added Tiley.

Last year, Tiley came under fire for his role in the incident as it emerged that he had assured Djokovic that everything would be fine without the authority to do so. He justified what he did by saying that they did their best:

“When we look back – I think we did our best and ... I can guarantee you that the same thing will happen today and the same thing will happen tomorrow.”
