In a recent interview ahead of the inaugural United Cup, Rafael Nadal praised the player that he was supposed to play twice in the past few months but both meetings were eventually cancelled.

First, it was the Spaniard who withdrew from their semifinal match at the 2022 Wimbledon. This time, Nick Kyrgios pulled out from the United Cup, where the two were supposed to meet. When speaking about the Australian, he said:

"I know he doesn't like a lot to play Roland Garros. That's the only tournament that looks like he doesn't like to play that much. The rest of the tournaments, he played final in Wimbledon, and in New York he was close to the finals I think, with a very positive chance," said Nadal.

Speaking about his chances of winning in Australia, the Spaniard later added: "He can win in any tournament that he's playing. He has all the talent, the weapons to win against any player. Of course he can."
