Felix Auger-Aliassime burst onto the tennis scene as a teenager establishing himself as one of the most talented players on Tours.
From the beginning, Auger oozed with potential and it was rather clear when he reached 3 ATP finals in his breakout season at age 18. The Canadian quickly rose through the ranks as a very consistent player but hit a wall after that. His play did not drop but it did not improve either. That's the reason why he had to wait 3 years since his first final to finally win his maiden trophy.
He only won his maiden trophy in Rotterdam this year after going 0-8 in finals before that one. He reflected on it in a recent interview:
"Having my mom and dad on FaceTime, I think that's what got me emotional. I think, myself, on the court, I was really happy, but I wasn't feeling all the emotions."
He continued:
"Once you're close with your people, and you share a moment with them, that's when you really start feeling all the emotions because you think of the tough moments of losing finals. You think of the work that you put together, and it's just really a big relief. It's like this stress that all goes out at the same time. I think that's why you feel emotions as a player."
